  • School contact details can be found on our Contact Us page.

    Your website should include the:

    • name of your school or college
    • postal address of your school or college
    • telephone number of your school or college
    • name of the member of staff who deals with queries from parents and other members of the public
    • name of the headteacher or principal
    • name and address of the chair of the governing body (if you have one)
    • name and contact details of your special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator (SENCO) unless you’re a special academy

    If you’re an academy or free school, you should publish details about your academy’s sponsor:

    • if the school’s owner is an individual, you should publish their full name and contact details (address and a telephone number)
    • if the school’s owner is a group or organisation, you should publish the address and telephone number of its office

    Admissions arrangements for all mainstream academy schools must comply with the School admissions code and the School admission appeals code.

    Academy trusts must publish the admissions arrangements for their schools on their website and keep them there for the whole of the offer year (the school year in which offers for places are made).

    The published uniform policy should be easy to understand and, where a school has a school uniform, should:

    • clearly state whether an item is optional or required
    • make clear if the item will only be worn at certain times of the year (for example, if it’s summer or winter uniform)
    • make clear whether a generic item will be accepted or if a branded item is required
    • make clear whether an item can only be purchased from a specific retailer or if it can be purchased more widely, including from second-hand retailers

    • official start time of the compulsory school day
    • official end time of the compulsory school day
    • total time this amounts to in a typical week, including breaks but not after-school activities

    What all academies must publish 

    Academies must publish their policy on relationships education or relationships and sex education. They should consult parents and carers when developing and reviewing it. It must meet pupils’, parents’ and carers’ needs, and reflect the community the academy serves. (Relationships, Health and Sex Education)

    What all academies should publish 

    • the content of the curriculum in each academic year for every subject, including mandatory subjects such as religious education (RE) – this applies even if it is taught as part of another subject or known by another name (Curriculum)
    • information to make parents and carers aware they have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE
    • how parents, carers or other members of the public can find out more about the curriculum

    Alongside the content of their music curriculum, all academies are expected to publish information about their music development plan. A template is available to support with this.

    Where applicable, they should also publish a list of the:

    • key stage 1 phonics or reading schemes they use (Reading)

    Academies must prepare an accessibility plan that sets out how, over time, they will increase the extent to which disabled pupils participate in the curriculum.

    You should publish details of your school's behaviour policy, including your anti-bullying strategy in accordance with Part 3 of the Schedule to Education (Independent School standards) (England) Regulations 2014. This policy must also include the school's approach to the use of reasonable force to control or restrain pupils.

    If your school receives pupil premium funding, your funding agreement will state what information you need to publish about it.

    Regardless of what your funding agreement requires you to publish, we recommend that you publish details of your pupil premium strategy.

    For the current academic year, we recommend you publish:

    • how much pupil premium funding you received for this academic year
    • details of the main barriers to educational achievement that the disadvantaged children in your school face
    • how you will spend your pupil premium funding to overcome these barriers and the reasons for the approach you’ve chosen
    • how you will measure the effect of the pupil premium
    • the date of the next pupil premium strategy review

    For the previous academic year, we recommend you publish:

    • how you spent your pupil premium funding
    • the effect that the pupil premium had on pupils

    The Teaching Schools Council has published templates to support schools in presenting their pupil premium strategies. Use of the templates is voluntary.

    If your school receives PE and sport premium funding, you must publish:

    • how much funding you received
    • a full breakdown of how you've spent the funding or will spend the funding
    • the effect of the premium on pupils' PE and sport participation and attainment
    • how you'll make sure these improvements are sustainable

    You are also required to publish the percentage of pupils within your Year 6 cohort in the academic year who met the national curriculum requirement to:

    • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
    • use a range of strokes effectively
    • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

    Attainment data for year 6 pupils should be provided from their most recent swimming lessons. This may be data from years 3, 4, 5 or 6, depending on the swimming programme at your school.

    As public bodies, academies, free schools and further education institutions must comply with the public sector equality duty in the Equality Act 2010. This means you have to:

    • publish details of how your school complies with the public sector equality duty - you should update this every year
    • publish your school’s equality objectives - you should update this at least once every 4 years

    You need to include details of:

    • eliminating discrimination (see the Equalities Act 2010)
    • improving equality of opportunity for people with protected characteristics
    • consulting and involving those affected by inequality in the decisions your school or college takes to promote equality and eliminate discrimination (affected people could include parents, pupils, staff and members of the local community)
  • Special educational needs and disability (SEND) information and Accessibility plan can be viewed, printed or downloaded from our SEND page.

    You must publish a SEN information report on your school's policy for pupils with SEND and how you put the policy into effect. You should update this annually, or as soon as possible if there are changes during the year.

    The report must comply with:

    You can find details of what to include in schedule 1 of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014, and section 6 of the Special educational needs and disability code of practice: 0 to 25 years.

    You must also publish the accessibility plan you've prepared in compliance with paragraph 3 of schedule 10 to the Equality Act 2010

    We recommend that all academies, free schools and colleges publish their complaints policy online.

    If you’re an academy, free school, FE or sixth-form college, we recommend that you publish your whistleblowing policy online.

    Academies and free schools must publish any arrangements for handling complaints from parents of children with special educational needs about the support provided by the school.

    Academies should publish their charging and remissions policies (this means when you cancel fees). The policies must include details of:

    • the activities or cases where your school will charge pupils’ parents
    • the circumstances where your school will make an exception on a payment you would normally expect to receive under your charging policy

    The document must be published either on the school website or via other means (DfE statutory guidance 'Keeping Children Safe in Education 2018)
